The annual progress meeting of the research project “EDK 00284” took place on July 11, 2019 at the International Hellenic University, in Thessaloniki.
The project is carried out cooperatively by Hydromanagement LTd, the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Larissa (DEYAL) and the Food Science and Technology Department of the International Hellenic University.
During the meeting, the progress of the project was presented and discussed with all partners, the next steps were analyzed and a plan to implement the agreed-upon actions was produced. The research project “Energy Analysis and Optimization at Wastewater Treatment Plants for the reduction of energy footprint and Greenhouse Emissions (EDK 00284)” was officially launched on 04-06-2018. The project is conducted in the framework of the “RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE” programme, which forms part of the Operational Programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2014-2020 (EPAnEK)”.
The objective of the project is to create an integrated tool for operational – energy assessment and facility optimization, regarding Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Greece, also applicable to developing countries. Its aim is to provide a process energy auditing tool to WWTP’s authorities, in order to optimize a facility’s energy performance, utilize every available own energy source, and implement opportunities to reduce energy use and costs, resulting to a better energy – environmental footprint. At the same time, the biogas production potential of by-products collected during pre or primary treatment, such as FOG or screenings, is examined.
